Town Management

The economic vitality and viability of many small towns has long been under threat with the growth of regional shopping centres and a change in the public's shopping habits. Since 1998 Dorking has benefited from an active town management initiative whose remit is to help develop the town's economy to meet these changing needs. This web site and its accompanying booklet is part of a wider visitor and tourism initiative developed by town management in partnership with other local organisations.

The town management initiative is a public/private partnership supported financially by Mole Valley District Council, St Martins Walk Shopping Centre, J Sainsbury plc, Waitrose Ltd, Barclays Bank plc, Boots plc and Dorking & District Chamber of Commerce. Representatives from these key partners form the overall management 'steering group' which provides guidance and direction to the town manager.

The town manager has honorary positions in the following town centre organisations: Dorking & District Chamber of Commerce, Dorking Traders Association, South Street Traders Association, West Street Association.
