West Street & Antiques
100 antique dealers in 22 shops in one historic Street.
West Street didn't just evolve into one of Britain's most prestigious centres for antiques by chance - its attractions have long been recognised and since Frederick Turner started dealing in antiques from what is now the Dorking Lighthouse in 1950, dealers and bargain hunters have been flocking here.
West Street sits at the heart of one of Surrey's prettiest historic towns. It retains the majority of its lovely old buildings, some dating from as early as 1563, and it has that special link with the Pilgrim Fathers through William Mullins's house at No. 56. Look at any of the old Victorian photographs of the street and most of it is instantly recognisable. The conservationists have encouraged it to become a thriving antiques centre, whilst preserving its historic charm.
Key to its success is that there are now 22 good quality antique shops within the 300 yard length of West Street. Four of these are major centres with up to 20 dealers in each and the other individual shops offer furniture ranging from finest early Georgian to affordable Victorian /Edwardian; specialist desk and clock shops, scientific instruments, sporting antiques, porcelain, silver, glass and a host of other collectables.
No more jumping in and out of the car every few miles to find the one shop is closed. Here you can park the car and forget about it for the entire day while you browse and relax.
When you fancy a break, there are a host of superb pubs, restaurants, boutiques and cafés nearby.
