Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days is the largest voluntary heritage event in the country. Throughout England local people will participate in events to celebrate their local history and heritage. One of the largest programmes takes place here in Dorking. The dates for the 2008 event are Thursday 11th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September.

The theme for this year's event is 'Hidden Treasures'. Many of the events over the 4 days will reflect the little know treasures of the Dorking area. It is also the 50th anniversary of the death of much loved composer Ralf Vaughan William who lived in Dorking for many years and there will be events to mark this occasion. Other events will celebrate another 50th anniversary: the designation of the Surrey Hills surrounding Dorking as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
