Music and Arts Venues

The major venue for the arts is the Dorking Halls, and in the north of the districti is The Theatre in Leatherhead, 5 miles away. There is also the Green Room utilised by the Dorking and District Dramatic and Operatic Society, and many local facilities in schools such as The Yehudi Menhuin School in Great Bookham. Village halls and churches also provide some fine venues. Woodhouse in Holmbury St Mary provides a concert hall in a lovely location and seats 180 people for an annual programme of chamber music. Many of the town and village pubs allow opportunities for a wide range of music, from jazz to folk, to be performed. There are several galleries and workshops that open their doors to the public. They provide an excellent opportunity to view and buy art works. In Dorking there is a cluster of galleries both within the town and in the surrounding area. Details of these and contact telephone numbers and opening times can be obtained from 'Surrey Artists Open Studios' available from the Visitor Information Centre (telephone 01306 879327) and www.sympa.org.uk.
