Collector's Heaven

If you are interested in antiques, fine art, sculpture and British crafts, you will want to return to Dorking again and again to enjoy the excellent range of shops and galleries.

An ideal morning might be spent discovering treasures amongst the many internationally renowned antique shops in West Street.  Nearby, there are excellent Art Galleries to be found at Pump Corner, the King’s Head Courtyard, and the High Street.  In addition there are two auction houses where regular auctions are held.

After lunch you could take a short car ride to the Hannah Peschar Garden, a fascinating garden where you will discover contemporary sculptures stunningly displayed amongst the woodlands and water features.

Alternatively, you could travel to Polesden Lacey, the former home of the great Edwardian hostess Mrs Ronald Greville, now owned by the National Trust.  The house contains Mrs Greville’s magnificent collection of paintings, ceramics, silver, and furniture.

The Surrey Hills Explorer Bus visits Polesden Lacey on Saturdays and Sundays from April to October.  On Sundays the Explorer Bus also stops at Clandon Park, which houses an extensive collection of porcelain, and Hatchlands Park, renowned for the collection of keyboard instruments.

The suggestions on this page are only a small selection of places that will be of interest to lovers of art and antiques.  For details of Auction houses, Antiques Fairs, and Galleries in the surrounding area, contact the Visitor Information Centre on 01306 879327 or email visitorinformation@molevalley.gov.uk
