The Greensand Way

Greensand Way runs parallel to the North Downs Way. This route takes you on another journey of discovery through archetypal English villages with traditional pubs and village cricket greens to tranquillity and a pace of life unexpected in the south-east.

You will discover heathland, ancient woodland and all the associated wildlife. The views from the greensand ridge, west of Dorking towards the South Downs and over the High Weald rival those of the North Downs Way and at Leith Hill you will be atop the highest point in the south-east. It was from this vantage point of 967 feet that, in the 18th Century, Royal Engineers claimed they could see 41 London churches, some of these may have gone but the views remain!

Here again you will be walking in the footsteps of the famous and notorious. Ralph Vaughan Williams lived here and smugglers used lanes and secret pathways whilst carrying their contraband from the south coast to London.
