Cycling
Cycling in the Surrey Hills is one of the most pleasant ways of seeing the countryside. The A24 forms the north-south spine road through the Mole Gap and it includes a segregated cycle path with access to cycling in Norbury Park, including a family cycle route, and Box Hill. A link at either end of the A24 provides access into and out of the town centres of Dorking and Leatherhead.
Off road cycling is permitted on bridleways. These give access to extensive areas of countryside. Cyclists are requested to give way to horse riders and walkers.
Head For The Hills in Dorking provide mountain bike hire, sales and servicing (43 West Street, Tel: 01306 885007, www.head-for-the-hills.co.uk). Maps, helmets, hydration pack and tools are part of the hire package, and they can also give advice on routes to suit your ability and fitness levels.
Surrey Hills All Terrain Mountain Bile Tours are led by certified instructors and graded according to ability and experience (Tel: 07976 353963, www.allbikedup.com)
The Mole Valley Cycling Forum promotes the interests of cyclists in the area and runs a Cycle Day in June. Members of the Forum are happy to give advice to visitors on suitable routes and days out.
For details of the Forum visit www.mvcf.org.uk.
“From novices wanting a gentle pedal in the countryside to thrill-seeking experts, the Surrey Hills has trails for everyone.” Dan Webb, Head For The Hills
