House and Gardens

The picturesque landscape of the Surrey Hills and its proximity to London provided the perfect location for the wealthy gentleman's country house. A number of wonderful houses were built in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, making the most of the glorious vistas and creating their own gardens and parklands.

Several of the best houses are owned by the National Trust and open to the public. Each one is a day out in itself, providing a perfect mixture of architecture, countryside, gardens, history and good food in the cafes and restaurants.
