Leith Hill
The road from Dorking to Coldharbour takes you to one of the most impressive landmarks in Surrey, its eighteenth century tower rising from a sea of heather and woodland to form the highest point in South East England at over 1000 feet.
The area attracts between 200,000-400,000 visitors each year. Picnic tables are provided adjacent to the Tower and at the nearby Rhododendron Wood. There is also the added bonus of refreshments being available from the servery in the base of the Tower, when it is open to the public, an information display in the two middle rooms, and a telescope on top of the battlements which on clear days provides panoramic views second to none. The servery is particularly popular and welcome at the end of a walk to the tower.
Interesting Fact: If you look east from the top of Leith Hill Tower the next highest point is the Ural Mountains.
