The Mole Gap Trail
The River Mole has slowly but surely eroded away at the chalk hills to the north of Dorking to provide one of the most attractive walking opportunities in the area - and for this one you do not even need the car to get to the start!
Catch the train to Leatherhead Station, where the Trail begins and follow the silver arrows. You will soon be out of the town and following the river Mole winding its lazy way through meadows and woodland at a much slower pace than is really good for you!
Passing between the high outlooks of Ranmore Common and Box Hill the trail remains level for its six miles and takes you through the tranquillity of Norbury Park to Denbies, the largest vineyard in the United Kingdom and then on to Dorking Town Centre or station.
All the way you will find an abundance of wildlife from dragonflies and edible snails, a legacy of Roman times to some of the most important yew plantations in England.
